After going on a bit of a losing streak, online poker star Viktor Blom, perhaps better known by his Web moniker Isildur1, beat Scott “urnotindangr” Palmer out of $66,000 Sunday night.

That loss was a bit more lopsided than the $66K figure would seem to indicate.  After all, many of these reports include numbers in the six figure range.

From AintLuck.com

In one of the very first hands, the two combatants were at the river looking at a board that read A-K-K-10-Q.  After some deliberation, Blom shoved his virtual stack all in, forcing Palmer into a big decision for a $21K pot.  He made the call holding Q-J for a Broadway straight.  However, Blom scooped it as he had AK for a flopped full house.  From there, Blom never looked back nor even relinquished the lead for a single hand.  He hammered away at his seemingly overwhelmed opponent and took down virtually all of the largest pots of the contest.

About 200 hands in, Blom was already ahead by $22,000, a figure that more than doubled after winning a coin flip holding AK of hearts against Palmer’s pocket 9’s.  After 40% of the 2,500 hands had been played, Blom’s lead had swelled to $68,000 and the party was truly on. A flush over flush in which Palmer was again beaten added another sizable pot to Blom.  Using these big wins, Blom’s lead eventually surpassed $100,000 and it seemed to be just a matter of time before he would hold all of the chips in play.

However, as has been the case in the past, the only person capable of beating Blom on this day was himself.  Perhaps out of boredom, cockiness or a mixture of the two, he began to carelessly bluff at pots in which Palmer held semi-strong to strong hands.  In just two hands alone, Blom bluffed off $25,000 to his essentially defeated opponent. As a result, when the dust had settled 4.5 hours after it began, Blom had earned a win of $66K though it could have been 30% higher.
