Following in the footsteps of the much ballyhooed Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT), Global Poker Tours on Wednesday announced the creation of the Brasil Poker Tour (BPT).   The tournament will be sponsored by PokerStars.  (SãoPaulo será a primeira etapa do Brasil Poker Tour:  21 de julho a 25)

Brasil is considered to have the 6th largest poker playing community in the world.

The BPT is slated to offer a new series of international poker events that will feature accessible buy-ins, large prize pools, excellent tournament structures, and players from Latin America and around the world.

Taking place July 21 through the 25, 2011, the Brasil Poker Tour will be hosted at the fabulous Hotel Transamerica in Sao Paulo and include a $2,300 buy-in main event.

David Carrion, president of the LAPT, said: “The creation of the BPT is a natural step for developing poker in Brasil. The number of poker players grows every day and we see increased participation of Brasilians in tournaments across the world. Therefore Brasil is the natural choice to become the first country in the region with an exclusive poker circuit. We expect players from neighbouring countries and all over the world to participate.”
