A massive Denial of Service (DoS) attack against one of the world's largest online poker rooms has forced the pausing of a highly anticipated online tournament.

OSS CUB3D was to start August 5 and finish September 2.

The DoS attack was in full force Tuesday night forcing players to be shut out.

ACR tweeted out:

As you are aware we are experiencing a DDOS attack. We have now mitigated this attack. We will resume once we see players retaking their seats. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

They followed up with a tweet attempting to assist customers still having difficulties.

If you are getting stuck at configuring when trying to open the poker client, please contact our CS department by calling 1-877-314-4195 and provide your username, IP number and Internet Service Provider. They will be more than glad to help you out.

DoS attacks can be brutal, but having one in the middle of a major online poker tournament magnifies the pain to be sure.

One player tweeted:

Real nice. This shit is so bad. Thanks for making me fold without my choice in the matter.

Online gaming sites have spent millions in an effort to stop such attacks.

In computing, Wikipedia describes a denial-of-service attack as a cyber-attack in which the perpetrator seeks to make a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users by temporarily or indefinitely disrupting services of a host connected to the Internet.

Americas Cardroom is working around the clock to prevent future DoS attacks.  A number of other big sites have been hit during major events.  One of the world's largest online sportsbooks, BetOnline, was hit by a massive DoS attack at the start of this year's March Madness.
