Internet Gambling, Horse Racing Regulated Simulcasting on Agenda in Massachusetts

BOSTON — The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is pressing lawmakers and Gov. Deval Patrick to push back a key deadline for the panel to take over the regulation of horse racing and simulcasting, saying the expanded duties will make it harder to get new casinos up and running.

Commission chairman Steven Crosby said Tuesday that the panel will meet the May 20 takeover deadline if needed, but said delaying the change makes more sense for the state.

EPT Berlin Day 1b Chip Leaders

EPT Berlin Day 1b chip leaders had Andreas Vlachos on top prior to the end of the day’s play.  Vlachos is a relative unknown on the live circuit.

Investors Unnerved by Playtech Planned Acquisitions: Shares Fall

(Reuters) - Playtech, the world's biggest provider of online gaming software, plans a string of acquisitions as it branches out into the social gaming market but news that it will be buying the businesses from its main shareholder unnerved investors.

The Estonia-based firm said on Tuesday that it planned to spend 95 million euros ($124.1 million) buying assets owned by Israeli billionaire Teddy Sagi who founded Playtech and still owns a 48 percent stake in the company.

Purple Lounge Parent Media Corp Looks to Acquire The Poker Channel

Media Corp, parent company to the popular online gambling venue Purple Lounge, is looking to take over The Poker Channel parent company Gaming Media Group (GMG), it was reported on Tuesday. 

Media Corp suspended its shares and issued a statement to the London Stock Exchange Tuesday morning upon announcing its plans.

The Poker Channel launched in 2005 and is seen in the United Kingdom and across 30 territories with a reach of 30 million subscribers.  Most recently, the channel signed on to air programming in France, Mexico and Argentina.

The iPoker Network has remained on top, assuming we were to remove PokerStars from the equation.  For the better part of nearly 5 months, PartyPoker has held a tight grip on the number two spot of most trafficked online poker rooms in the world.  During the month of March, iPoker has regained the position and currently holds a 200 to 250 on average real cash player lead over Party.

Breaking News: Poker Legend Amarillo Slim on Deathbed

One of the greatest poker icons ever, Amarillo Slim, was reportedly in a hospice late Monday evening, April 16, 2012, clinging to life.

Amarillo Slim, whose real name is Thomas Austin Preston, Jr., is 83 years old.

Below is one of Amarillo Slim's last interviews from the 2008 WSOP....

Preston won the main event at the 1972 World Series of Poker and was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1992.

Preston has four World Series of Poker bracelets with his most recent win in 1990.

EPT Berlin 2012 Kicks Off (Video)

The EPT Berlin 2012 tournament has gotten underway with an expanded space for play.

Among those in attendance early on included noted pros Barney Boatman, Scott Seiver, Barry Greenstein and Vanessa Selbst.  German player Jan Heitmann and Quebec's Will Molsen were also taking part early on.

Last year’s EPT Berlin was much more subdued with Ben Wilinofsky taking home the €825,000 after beating a 773-strong field.  The prize this year is expected to flirt with the one million mark.

New Jersey Internet Gambling Should be Set for Fall

A vote to legalize online gambling in New Jersey will take place in the state’s senate on May 31.  The delay will push back the start of legalized Internet gambling in the Garden State somewhat, but the bill’s sponsor, Raymond Lesniak, still anticipates a fall starting date.

Police Shoot Caterer During Raid on Poker Game: Poker Playing Doc Assists Wounded (Video)

Police shot a caterer who drew his weapon on an officer during a Thursday evening  raid of a Chattanooga high stakes poker game.

An officer fired and hit Clifford Jamar Billups, 32, in the side.  He was treated and released.  Billups, who has an extensive criminal record, attempted to flee out a back door while the raid was in progress.  He has since been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, felony reckless endangerment and illegal gambling and is due to appear in court on Thursday.

Vegas Priest Who Siphoned $650k to Support Video Poker Habit Will Begin Prison Term

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Roman Catholic priest from Las Vegas was due to surrender Friday at a federal prison in Texas to begin serving three years and one month for siphoning $650,000 from his northwest Las Vegas parish to support a video poker and casino gambling habit.

Monsignor Kevin McAuliffe, 59, planned to turn himself in as required at the low-security La Tuna correctional institution in the Texas-New Mexico border town of Anthony, defense attorney Margaret Stanish told The Associated Press.

New Full Tilt Poker Class Action Suit Filed Against Lederer, Ferguson

Another class action lawsuit has been filed against Full Tilt Poker directors Howard Lederer and Chris Ferguson.  Both men have been accused of running a ponzi scheme by the US Justice Department in connection with the now shuttered online poker firm.

Full Tilt customers living in the US have waited a year now to receive monies owed to them after two executives from the company were charged with money laundering and bank fraud on April 15, 2012.  The US Government also froze more than a dozen of FTP’s bank accounts.
