James "PhantomL0rd" Varga, with hundreds of thousands of followers on various social media platforms, is looking to take on Amazon-owned Twitch after it suspended his account back in 2016.

forbes.com notes that Varga initially amassed his following due to his skill as a competitive video game player, focusing on the popular League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive games.

Varga's gripe is that Twitch was unjustified in terminating his account and that it failed to provide proper written notice of violations as well as an opportunity to cure any alleged breaches.  He is suing for damages in the Superior Court of the State of California situated in San Francisco.

For its part, Twitch claimed the suspension was based on Varga having fraudulent subscribers.

That explanation was later changed.  From Forbes.com:

However, later Twitch changed its explanation and alleged that the punitive measure was due to his online content violating the content guidelines and an accusation by esports reporter Richard Lewis that Varga cheated on game-related gambling sites. No matter the stated justification for termination, Varga maintains that he was never provided a true opportunity to cure.

Varga was earning 70% of the monthly gross subscription revenues from his channel when he had a peaceful working relationship with Twitch.
