Triple Crown 2010

The running of the 136th Kentucky Derby goes this Saturday and again talk about the Triple Crown will begin.  Will there be a Triple Crown winner this year? The betting odds of a Triple Crown occurring in 2010 were set at +500 for Yes and -1000 for No.  The Yes would pay out $50 for every $10 bet or $500 for every $100 bet at Sportsbetting.com (see website here)

Going into this year's Run for the Roses, Lookin At Lucky is the odds-on at +225, according to Sportsbetting.com, followed by Sidney's Candy at +400 and Awesome Act at +750.

Eskendereya was also expected to be one of the favorites but is suffering from a swollen left leg and was taken out of the race by trainer Todd Pletcher.

Pletcher told the AP that the injury won't end Eskendereya's career and is comparable to a sprained ankle - owner Ahmed Zayat will wait until the swelling goes down before making a firm decision.

"He says the horse comes first," Pletcher went on to say.

"He loves Eskendereya. He's not going to do anything to take any chances."

Had Eskendereya remained in the race, the odds of a Triple Crown in 2010 probably would have been slashed some.

Affirmed is still the last horse to win the Derby, the Preakness and Belmont Stakes and Big Brown came close two years ago but fell short when he lost at Belmont.
