Stay Thirsty vs. Coil Travers Stakes Betting Odds

Stay Thirsty vs. Coil was the highly anticipated Travers Stakes matchup and both contenders were at 3/1 odds as of Saturday morning.  Payouts would be $300 for every $100 bet at TwinSpires.com, which is licensed in the United States and owned by Churchill Downs.

Coil was victorious in the Haskell against Preakness winner Shackleford and Belmont Stakes winner Ruler On Ice, however, his status was in doubt up until Wednesday.

”He has the raw talent,” trainer Bob Baffert said. “What he did in the Haskell was pretty amazing. He’s still green.”

Stay Thirsty seems to be coming into his own, finishing second in the Belmont Stakes and winning the Jim Dandy.

“He’s gradually improved,” his trainer Todd Pletcher said. “He’s a horse who’s bred to get better as he gets older, and he’s a horse who’s bred to get better as the distances stretch out. We’re really happy with where we are, and we feel like we’re coming up to it in good shape.”

“I’m happy with this horse,” Stay Thirsty owner Mike Repole said. “He’s been so under the radar. He’s in Uncle Mo’s stable. In the Jim Dandy, he basically told everyone, ‘I’m for real.’”
