2015 Florida Derby Betting Odds: Upstart, Materiality Favorites

The 2015 Florida Derby betting odds were available at Mybookie.

This race is open to qualifying three-year-olds and is run at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Florida.
The Florida Derby is run on 1⅛ miles (9 furlongs) of dirt.

The purse for this race is $1 million.

The winner of this race is expected to run in this year’s Kentucky Derby.

Upstart at 8-5 odds, Materiality at 7-2 odds and Itsaknockout at 2-1 odds were among the three favorites coming into Saturday’s race.

Upstart drew the far outside post, giving him somewhat of a disadvantage.

“I think Upstart’s the best horse with the worst post,” veteran Daily Racing Form handicapper Mike Welsch said. “But if you’re in the worst post, it helps if you have the best horse.”

Gulfstream racing analyst Ron Nicoletti said he’s picking Materiality.

“I was tempted to pick Upstart,” Nicoletti said. “But I had to go with Materiality because he’s the only horse that has won at nine furlongs in the race. I think he has a tactical speed advantage.”
