A woman from New York who won nearly $43 million from a slot machine at Resorts World Casino in August will not be paid after being told by casino representatives she hadn’t actually won.

Katrina Bookman was told that the slot machine had malfunctioned.  Instead of the $43 million, Bookman was offered a free steak dinner.  Yum.

A notice on the slot machines states, “Malfunctions void all pays and plays.”

Bookman and her attorney are not asking for the $43 million but instead believe she should be awarded the maximum amount winnable on the Sphinx slot machines, $6500.

“They win and the house doesn’t want to pay out. To me that’s unfair,” attorney Alan Ripka said. “The machine takes your money when you lose. It ought to pay it when you win.”

The New York State Gaming Commission says Bookman is only entitled to $2.25 plus she gets that free steak dinner.
