After losing the first game of their Eastern Conference semifinal series, the Philadelphia 76ers responded like you’d expect the No. 1 seed to. The Sixers can take a commanding lead over the Atlanta Hawks with a win in Game 4 on Monday night after capturing the last two games, including a dominant 127-111 triumph in Atlanta in Game 3. Joel Embiid returned from a one-game absence due to a knee injury and has been brilliant. While Embiid has been on the court, the Sixers will be without starter Danny Green, who has been ruled out for Monday’s tilt.

Odds Analysis

With double digit wins and covers in the last two games, the Sixers hit the board as a slight 3-point favorite for Game 4. They cruised to a 16-point win on Friday to go up 2-1 in the series, easily covering the 2-point closing line. Philly has played every postseason game as a favorite and is 5-2 ATS in its last seven contests. When laying points this season, the Sixers are 36-25-1 ATS in all games. The Hawks look to rekindle some of their home court magic to even the series. Dating back to the middle of April they had won 13 straight at home going 11-2 ATS before falling in Game 3. Blowouts this season have been a common theme between these teams with five of the six games decided by at least 16 points. The Sixers finished on top in four of those matchups with an average margin of 24.5 points. The teams have played OVER the closing total in three of the last four meetings

Philadelphia 76ers

Following a pair of thorough victories to complete their regular season series, the Sixers may have taken the Hawks lightly. They were introduced to the intensity of the second round right off the bat. Philly posted wins of 22 and 44 points during the season but were flummoxed by Trae Young, who scored 35 points, in the opener losing the home court advantage with a 128-124 setback. Not knowing if Embiid would be available after a knee injury in the in the Washington series, the question of whether or not he’d play was answered. Embiid scored 39 points with nine rebounds. He’s averaging 35.3 points and 10.3 rebounds in the series. “Playing on a torn meniscus isn’t easy. The pain is going to be there. That’s normal. It’s about managing it,” he said.

The Sixers will have to manage without Green, who’s been ruled out for Game 4 and possibly beyond after leaving the last contest with a calf injury. Matisse Thybulle and Furkan Korkmaz filled in for Green with Korkmaz netting a playoff career-high 14 points. The biggest change will be on defense. Green was the primary defender on Young in the first game and failed miserably. Ben Simmons took over in Game 2 with his size advantage a threat to Young’s scoring ability.

Atlanta Hawks

One thing you can’t teach in the NBA is height. And while the league has moved away from a traditional center in the lineup, having a size advantage can be a wonderful thing. The Hawks, unfortunately, are on the opposite side of that argument. They’ve been blitzed the last two games with no answer for Philly’s edge in the size department. They have a hard time defending Embiid and Simmons has been the primary defender on Young the last two games. Simmons is upwards of 6-9 while Young is lucky to be his listed height of 6-1.

There are ways around that and the Hawks showed how in Game 1 by knocking down a franchise playoff record 20 three-pointers. Young and Bogdan Bogdanovic combined for nine triples in the opener. However, the Hawks made a total of 17 threes in the last two games and were just 6 of 23 in Game 3. “This team, we work too hard, guys work too hard to feel down or anything about their shot. They’re going to fall eventually. I know they well. We’ve got to keep shooting,” Young said.

Now that the Hawks have Philly’s full attention we can expect more of the same in Game 4. Embiid has been a beast with little slowing him down. And Young has been neutralized with Simmons serving as the primary defender. The loss of Green is big for Philly, but they have guys who are more than capable of picking up the slack.

NBA Score Prediction: 76ers 117, Hawks 107
