Boyd Gaming and Station Casinos Approved for Internet Poker in Nevada

The Nevada Gaming Board has temporarily approved applications filed by Boyd Gaming and Station Casinos to operate online poker rooms within the Silver State.

The Nevada Gaming Commission will take up the matter Oct. 18 to determine final long-term approval.

Macau September Gambling Revenue Disappoints

(Reuters) - Gambling revenue in Macau rose a weaker-than-expected 12.3 percent in September, indicating China's slowing economy is increasingly hurting the appetite of wealthy mainland gamblers to place bets in the world's largest casino market.

September's revenue at 23.87 billion patacas, announced by the Macau government on Thursday, was the second weakest revenue figure this year.

O'Malley Denounces Anti-Gambling Ads as 'Hogwash'

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – (Associated Press) - Gov. Martin O'Malley on Wednesday fired back against television advertisements opposing the state's proposed gambling expansion, contending the casino company behind them is simply trying to protect its large operation in West Virginia from losing Maryland gamblers.

"It's a bunch of West Virginia casino hooey," the governor said.

Sports Leagues Call NJ Sports Betting Law Hypocritical

ATLANTIC CITY - (Associated Press) - The major professional sports leagues and the NCAA say New Jersey's proposed sports betting law is hypocritical because it prohibits gambling on New Jersey college games yet allows it on all other college and pro contests.

The NCAA, Major League Baseball, the National Football League, National Basketball Association and National Hockey League are collectively suing to block New Jersey's sports betting law from taking effect; the state says it could take bets as soon as December.

Packers-Seahawks Botched Call Nets Canadian Gambler $725,000

At first it appeared as if only Seattle came away a winner from last week’s Monday Night Football Packers-Seahawks botched call by referees in the final second of play.  Gamblers and bookmakers all seemed to come out on the losing end with some bookies refunding Green Bay bets.  Others got a bad rap for not doing so.  Hundreds of millions of dollars were shifted as a result of that one call.

Bwin.Party Confirms Sale of Ongame to Amaya

As was reported over the past week and now confirmed by Bwin.party, the world’s largest online gambling firm, Ongame has been acquired by Canadian company Amaya Gaming for  €15m in cash.

Amaya will pay a further €10m depending on progress made in the US on regulating online gambling, according to the Financial Times of London. 

A previous deal for Las Vegas-based ShuffleMaster to purchase Ongame earlier in the year for an initial €19.5m, plus a potential further €10m, eventually fell through.

Attorney: NY Casino Bus Driver Alert Before Fatal Crash That Killed 15

NEW YORK — (Associated Press) - A casino bus driver had enough sleep before a New York City crash that killed 15 passengers, his attorney said Thursday while arriving for the start of his client's manslaughter trial.

Ophadell Williams pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide in the March 12, 2011, accident after prosecutors said he was seriously sleep-deprived but drove anyway.

Alabama Casino Lobbyist Jennifer Pouncy to be Sentenced Today

A casino lobbyist who admitted to bribing Alabama officials as part of a “vote selling” scheme will be sentenced in Montgomery today. 

The one time Country Crossing casino lobbyist Jennifer Pouncy is hoping to receive probation although prosecutors are recommending two years in prison.  She faces five years for her conspiracy plea.

Country Crossing Casino developer Ronnie Gilley has already been sentenced to prison more than five years in prison for his role in the scheme.  Gilley's lobbyist, Jarrod Massey, received the same sentence.

Most New Jersey Residents Don’t Want Gambling in State Beyond Atlantic City

(Associated Press) - Most New Jerseyans oppose expanding casino gambling beyond Atlantic City, and also oppose granting state tax breaks to casino companies, according to a poll released Monday.

The Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind Poll shows 56 percent of voters surveyed are opposed to casinos anywhere else but in Atlantic City. Thirty-five percent say casinos should be added elsewhere in the state.
