GOP Mega Donor Adelson Hires Former Democratic Senator

Casino Magnate and GOP mega donor Sheldon Adelson has hired former Democratic Senator Blanche Lincoln as part of his campaign to abolish legalized Web gambling in the US.

Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands corporation hired Lincoln Policy Group, according to public records obtained by Politico.com.

William Hill, Ladbrokes Shares Hit Again Following UK Budget Woes, Downgrades

Leading UK bookmakers William Hill and Ladbrokes witnessed yet another share decline on Monday following a downgrade and unfavourable football results over the weekend.

Is New Jersey Online Gambling Driving Down Casino Revenue in Pennsylvania?

Forecasts for online gambling revenue in New Jersey may not quite be reaching targeted expectations but there could be an additional positive impact, at least where the Garden State is concerned.

Pope Tells Italian Mafia to Stop Evil or Prepare for Hell

(Reuters) - Pope Francis, in an annual ceremony held to remember the hundreds of innocent people murdered by the Italian mafia, made a solemn plea for mobsters to change or else "end up in hell".

The mafia continues to plague much of southern Italy: just on Monday, a four-year-old boy was shot dead, along with his mother and her boyfriend, near the southern city of Taranto in a suspected mob hit.

Online Gambling Affiliates Now Welcome in New Jersey With Income Access

Popular online gambling super affiliate company Income Access has entered into a partnership with Betfair.com to allow affiliate marketing in New Jersey.

Internet gambling firms are looking for creative ways to catch up with bwin.party, which so far has dominated the airwaves and offline media throughout the New Jersey-New York-Pennsylvania region.

Whether affiliates will be enticed enough to focus on such a limited market remains to be seen.  Only those physically located in New Jersey will be able to wager with Betfair.

Cato Institute and Pacific Legal Foundation Back New Jersey Sports Betting Bid

New Jersey received some welcome news from the prestigious Cato Institute and the Pacific Legal Foundation Thursday.  They filed an amicus brief in support of New Jersey’s bid to have the U.S. Supreme Court hear their protest of a 1992 federal law that is preventing the Garden State from offering sports betting to its citizens.

Michigan Withdraws Rules for Charitable Games

LANSING, Mich. (Associated Press) - A Michigan agency has withdrawn proposed new rules to rein in the charitable gambling industry to consider possible changes because of opposition from some lawmakers.

The state Gaming Control Board notified a joint legislative rules committee of its decision Wednesday.

Gov. Rick Snyder's administration is hoping to crack down on "millionaire parties." The events help charities raise money but have drawn criticism as "de facto casinos" also bringing large profits to bars and poker rooms.

What is the Minimum Money Amount to Open an Online Betting Account?

While the amount differs between sportsbooks, typically $25 to $50 is required to fund an account before you can start wagering.  $50 to $100 is usually the amount needed to take advantage of bonus offers.

The UK Advertising Standard Authority (ASA) has said that Irish bookmaker Paddy Power’s Oscar Pistorius murder trial 'Money Off If He Walks' ad was the single most complained-about advertisement ever recorded.

Paddy Power was forced to pull the ad after the ASA issued it a dire warning.

The ASA in its findings released Wednesday said: "We acknowledged that the ad had appeared in the context of a high profile murder trial that had received extensive media coverage and was of interest to the public.

Taj Mahal Killer Confesses to Two More Atlantic City Murders

Raheem Simmons, 20, pleaded guilty Tuesday (March 18, 2014) to two counts of aggravated manslaughter for the 2011 shooting deaths of Antwan Brown and Travon Kinard in Atlantic City.  Both victims were 20 years old at the time of they were killed.  All three resided in Camden, New Jersey.

Caesars to Develop Casino in South Korea

SEOUL/HONG KONG (Reuters) - Caesars Entertainment Corp looks set to build its first gaming resort in Asia after South Korea granted preliminary approval for a large-scale foreigners-only casino - a key boost for a company that has largely missed out on the region's boom in gambling revenues.

The consortium of Las Vegas-based Caesars, Singapore's OUE Ltd and Hong Kong-based Lippo Ltd is also one of the first foreign ventures to gain an entry into South Korea's casino industry, a promising market by virtue of its proximity to China and the country's wealthy punters.

Funeral Set for Las Vegas Gambling Pioneer Jackie Gaughan

LAS VEGAS (Associated Press) - A funeral is set Monday for a Las Vegas gambling pioneer who once owned much of the downtown casino market.

The service for Jackie Gaughan is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Saint Viator Catholic Community.

Gaughan died in hospice care Wednesday at the age of 93.

He was most closely associated with the El Cortez casino, which he used to own. He lived in a penthouse apartment there and was known to play poker in the casino almost every day.

New York State Senate Approves Gambling in Airports

Albany, N.Y. (Associated Press) - The state Senate is proposing that New York authorize video lottery terminals, A.K.A slot machines, at international airport departure terminals to catch gamblers on their way out of the country.

The airports serving Buffalo, Albany and Syracuse, among others, appear to be out of luck.

The Senate budget resolution says it's for international departure terminals located within a city of one million or more.

That would appear to apply as proposed only to Kennedy and LaGuardia airports in New York City.
