Nevada Judge Pleads Guilty in Federal Fraud Case: Some Funds Used for Gambling

LAS VEGAS — (Reuters) - A longtime Nevada state court judge pleaded guilty Wednesday to a federal conspiracy charge in a plea deal that cost him his elected position, his law license and is expected to get him 27 months in prison for his role in a decade-long investment fraud that prosecutors said reaped more than $2.6 million.

Wynn Resorts Gets Approved for Gambling License

BOSTON — (Associated Press) - Wynn Resorts has won the competition for the lucrative Boston-area casino license, besting rival Mohegan Sun largely on the strength of its $1.6 billion project’s economic development potential.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission voted 3-to-1 Tuesday to award the license to the Las Vegas casino giant, which wants to turn a former chemical plant site on the Mystic River in Everett into a gleaming casino resort.

A final vote is expected Wednesday after Wynn formally agrees to terms and conditions regulators have stipulated.

VictoryLand Casino Trial Concludes After Four Days of Testimony

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Associated Press) -- A four-day trial over the legality of gambling machines seized from the VictoryLand casino has ended, but it will be a few weeks before the judge rules.

Attorneys for the closed Macon County casino and the state attorney general's office wrapped up their cases in a Montgomery courtroom Friday afternoon. Circuit Judge William Shashy gave lawyers four weeks to file more legal arguments after the transcript of the case is completed. Then he will rule.

3000 Taj Mahal Employees Given Notice They May Lose Jobs

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — (Associated Press) - The owner of the Trump Taj Mahal casino has sent notices to more than 3,100 employees warning it could be shut down in November.

Trump Entertainment Resorts told The Associated Press it filed the notices earlier this week, saying it could close Nov. 13.

The company filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday and threatened to close the Taj Majal if it doesn't get concessions from its unions.

Massachusetts Won’t Make Decision on Boston Casino This Week

BOSTON (Associated Press) — State gambling regulators say they'll hold off making a decision on the lone Boston-area casino license this week.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission on Wednesday said it will break off deliberations until Wynn Resorts and Mohegan Sun have a chance to respond, by Friday, to a series of conditions the panel is considering imposing on their proposals. The commission says it'll reconvene Monday with the hope of awarding the license by Wednesday.

Revel has $90 Million Offer to Buy Closed Casino

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — (Associated Press) - A Florida developer has offered $90 million for the Revel Casino Hotel that shut down last week, lawyers for the resort said Wednesday in court documents.

The casino said in the bankruptcy court filing that Glenn Straub's Polo North Country Club, Inc., made the cash bid for the $2.4 billion resort. The casino also wants a judge to set an auction for Sept. 24 if any higher bids are received by Sept. 23. A bankruptcy court judge would have to approve any sale.

Trump in Other Battles to Get Name Off of Troubled Properties

Real Estate tycoon Donald Trump recently sued to get his name off of two troubled Atlantic City casinos, the Trump Plaza and the Trump Taj Mahal.  This wouldn’t be the first time the Donald has been embroiled in lawsuits to disassociate himself with properties that feature his name.

Christie in Closed Door Meeting to Discuss Fate of Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY – (Associated Press) - Gov. Chris Christie said Monday that Atlantic City is undergoing a natural and necessary transformation as it expands beyond a gambling-only resort.

Christie convened a summit meeting on the resort’s future that was closed to the public and press for all but the very beginning of his remarks. But afterward, he said the changes buffeting the seaside gambling resort couldn’t be avoided.

Atlantic City began the year with 12 casinos. Three of them have already closed, and a fourth is shutting down next week.
