In September 2001, the Isle of Man
opened for business as a flagship licensing jurisdiction for online
casinos. With strict regulations guaranteeing protection to the
punters and a solid reputation forged through its financial
industry, the Island attracted mainstream gambling brands such as Littlewoods, MGM Mirage and SunOnline (whose
Casino Atlantis online was bought by Kerzner international).
At the end of June 2003, MGM Mirage closed and Rank Interactive’s
Hard Rock Casino online jumped ship to rival jurisdiction Alderney.
Casino Atlantis closed in March, and Actiononline’s Club Fiore
followed suit – reopening in Kahnawake, Canada as Actiononline.com.

Two weeks after Kobe Bryant's arrest for felony sexual assault,
prosecutors today announced that the NBA star has been formally
charged in connection with an alleged attack on a 19-year-old
employee of a ritzy Colorado lodge. Eagle County District Attorney
Mark Hurlbert told reporters that, if convicted of the Class 3
felony, the 24-year-old Los Angeles Lakers star could face between
four years and life in prison. Below you'll find a copy of the
criminal complaint charging Bryant with the alleged sex attack. In a
statement released by Bryant's agents, the athlete asserted that, "I
am innocent of the charges filed today. I did not assault the woman
who is accusing me. I made the mistake of adultery. I have to answer
to my wife and my God for my actions that night and I pray that both
will forgive me. Nothing that happened June 30th was against the
will of the woman who now falsely accuses me."

Online bookmaker Sportingbet faced off a financial
crisis recently that could have seen them bought out. Indeed one
take over bidder, that remained anonymous, was prepared to do the
honours for a whopping £46 million.
Sportingbet have announced that they will remain a public company.
The whole crisis came about when they realised that they couldn’t
afford to pay up for the acquisition of Sportsbook in 2001. They
paid £33 million for Sportsbook back then, but were obliged to pay
an additional £52 million towards the end of this year. Former
Sportsbook owners have agreed to reducing that to about £40 million
which can be paid over a three-year period. To top that, it turns
out that Barclays Bank, like any bank eager to do well out of high
interest, have gone and given Sportingbet a £10 million loan and
extended an existing £10.5 million overdraft agreement.
Well,
there is still plenty of time left, nearly five months to be exact, but some of
the offshore sports books are already off to a huge start. 911

their services. According to reports, the case was brought by the
country's national lottery operator, De Lotto, which argued that it is the only
party licensed to offer gambling services to the Dutch public, and that as the
sites can be accessed directly in the Netherlands, they should be considered to
be operating there illegally. In a preliminary ruling, the court ordered
that 21 online gambling sites must refuse to allow access to Dutch internet
users. However, according to a report from the Financial Times, some 40
companies have been called before it, and a further 42 internet betting sites
are being eyed by De Lotto.

Sports is the stick between its CEO's legs and from what we've been told, that
display only lasts about a minute. The real fireworks show remains
internal and it's the talk of the industry right now. Originating founders
of Royal continue to try desperately in saving the business they helped to found

Last week marked the first
year anniversary of John Gatti's passing. He was memorialized on the pages of

911 had a chance to
rummage through the old Diamond Sports International office this past week. Not
that there was much to see. A leather sofa, some desks and a list of agents
complete with phone numbers and addresses were all that remain. DSI has now
been merged into the CRIS office; good news for the players but bad news for
some 300 employees now looking for work. The sportsbook is a mere skeleton of
what it once was. Reports have surfaced that the two owners are at odds and one
plans to break free and start his own wagering shop.

potential suitor by having him fly down to meet with him two years ago. Just as
this potential suitor was about to go over his presentation, Root's phone rang,
he excused himself and never returned. "I doubt Root would even remember this
incident as he is too into himself but now that we are one of the few books out
there even capable of buying his business, all this bad karma is going to surely
come back to haunt him," said this operator. BetonSports previously let Root
go. "All of his deals collapse after one year," said the operator. "(He)
charges tons of money and never delivers." This operator also observed that
"(Wayne Root) is of the Wyne Newton Hairdo Hall of Fame. His hairdo has been
known to withstand a Nevada gale without one lock falling out of place."

According
to 911 sources, IQL has been waiting for some good news to post with
their extremely disappointing numbers from 2002 - but there is
nothing good on the horizon. Account receivables
remain high and even worse the customer base has eroded to only a
fraction of what it used to be. IQL, however, paints an
entirely different picture. World Wide Tele Sports has renewed
for another year, IQL has picked up a fairly decent size Starnet/World
Gaming licensee and 911 has learned they will be licensing a new
start up out of Panama as well. Some of the rumors related to
IQL Sportsbook software do have some basis though from what 911 has

card firms 'profit from Net fraud'
A
class action lawsuit against credit card firms alleging merchants
are unfairly left to shoulder the burden of credit card fraud has
begun in the US. The suit, filed by North Carolina-based law
firm Triangle Law Center, in the US States District Court for the
Eastern District of North Carolina, alleges all manner of misdeeds
on the part of credit card companies. Visa, MasterCard
International, American Express and Discover Financial Services are
all named in the suit, which certainly doesn't pull its punches.
