William Hill Finally Receives Approval to Operate in Nevada

After an excruciating process, the United Kingdom’s largest bookmaker William Hill has finally gained access into the US market after Nevada regulators approved its application to run a handful of sports betting enterprises.

Hill had come under intense scrutiny for its affiliation with Playtech, one of the world’s largest online gambling software providers.  The Gaming Control Board noted that Playtech’s founder, Teddy Sagi, had previously served time in prison for bribery and fraud during the 1990’s.  The Board also expressed concern over William Hill’s brief sojourn into the US online gambling market during the early part of the past decade.

Control Board Chairman Mark Lipparelli suggested that later was not a big deal.

“There was a failure on the part of the company in doing its due diligence,” Lipparelli said, while admitting that regulators won’t find “perfection” with any of the online gambling applicants coming their way.
