Feds Won’t Appeal Poker Pro Paul Phua Gambling Case After Rights Violation

Federal prosecutors have confirmed they will not be appealing a judge’s dismissal of an illegal gambling case against wealthy businessman Paul Phua.  Daniel Bogden, Nevada U.S. Attorney, confirmed this news to the Las Vegas Review Journal on Thursday.

U.S. District Judge Andrew Gordon dismissed the case June 1 after it was determined that Phua’s rights were violated when FBI agents entered his Las Vegas villa posing as Internet repairmen.  Phua was alleged to have been running an illegal World Cup betting ring.

“On behalf of Mr Phua, (attorney) Tom Goldstein and my office, we are pleased that the wisdom of Judge Gordon’s decision is not being challenged,” defense lawyer David Chesnoff said.
