Delaware to Review Gambling Sector

DOVER — (Associated Press) - A panel examining challenges facing Delaware’s gambling industry is close to submitting recommendations for state lawmakers to consider.

The lottery and gaming study commission will convene today at Legislative Hall to review its list of options.

The panel also planned to review an accounting firm’s report on economic and financial benchmarks for Delaware’s three casinos.

Chief among the options being considered by the commission is reconfiguring how gambling revenue is shared by the casinos, the state and the horse racing industry.

The panel faces a Jan. 31 deadline for reporting its findings and recommendations to the governor and the General Assembly.

Delaware officials have seen the state’s casinos steadily lose business in recent years to neighboring states despite the addition of table games, sports betting and online gambling.
