An afternoon game between the Michigan Wolverines and Connecticut Huskies has “Upset” written all over it even though Michigan is a mere -3 point favorite

Nevertheless, for online sportsbooks, a Connecticut win (or cover) would provide the upset.  Michigan is the 3rd biggest bet of the afternoon following LSU and Florida (2nd only after LSU at some Internet books).

“The sportsbooks won’t make out like banshees if the Huskies win,” suggests Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.  “The action isn’t as lopsided as with some games.  It’s only around 60/40 to 65/35 in favor of Michigan.”

Compare that with LSU getting around 95 percent of the action.

Tim Furious of BetUS.com:

Connecticut is returning four seniors to the offensive line who have played against the 3-3-5 so they’ll know exactly what to expect, which could get Michigan’s college football season off to an odd start.

What makes the move to a 3-3-5 defense a pain in the rear end for the Wolverines is that it’s an unorthodox scheme. Though they have the talent along the defensive line and at linebacker to make the system work, it takes time for the adjustments to fully take affect.

Furious adds that the Wolverines finished last season with an 0-5 SU and ATS record while the Huskies went on a 4-1 SU rip to finish theirs.

The Detroit Free Press should be “up” on Michigan, we would think.

They point to what the BetUS.com analyst has brought up:  That the Wolverines enter this season with a lot of “unknowns”.

Mark Snyder of the Free Press writes:

The quarterback is unknown (though Denard Robinson is expected to take the first snap), most of the secondary has little or no experience, and the defensive line is without its All-America playmaker.Since so few players stepping in are known commodities,

Then again, he makes another good point:  Connecticut will be at a disadvantage without much game film.
