The New York Jets host the Washington Redskins in a matchup that involves 2 of the most popular franchises in football. Both teams became even more popular this past offseason, so optimism is high as the regular season approaches. The Jets are -4.5 favorites tonight, with a total of 34 points expected. This battle begins at 7:00 EDT.

New York was able to bounce back from an embarrassing loss to their crosstown rivals, as they beat Carolina 9-3 in their most recent preseason game. Was that specific win really that meaningful though? The ever popular Jets and trendy Super Bowl pick were outgained by the Panthers by 63 total YDS. QB Mark Sanchez has been merely average this preseason, as he's only thrown for 161 YDS with 1 TD. Sanchez has a QB rating of 74.8 this preseason, as he will be looking for far better tonight. The Jets first string unit has been dominant, but the backups have clearly struggled, as documented on HBO's Hard Knocks. Defensively, the Jets have been solid, but the holdout of star CB Darrelle Revis is still lingering over the entire defense.

The Jets are 1-1 both SU and ATS this preseason.

Washington might be the most perplexing team in the NFL this preseason. After a dominating win over Buffalo, the Redskins were dominated by the Baltimore Ravens in their last preseason game. Offensively, the Redskins scored 42 PTS and 3 PTS, quite the disparity. Coach Mike Shanahan will look for a far more consistent showing tonight from his offense. QB's Donovan McNabb and Rex Grossman will lead the way tonight, as they look to continue to churn out yardage. The dynamic duo have combined for nearly 600 YDS passing so far in the preseason. The biggest position battle in camp is for the #2 WR position. Several players are in contention, with the most disappointing WR being Malcolm Kelly. Speaking of disappointing, the saga of DE Albert Haynesworth has been a distraction since the start of the preseason. Tonight will be the first road game of the preseason for Washington.

The Redskins are 1-1 both SU and ATS this preseason.

Pregame.com projects the final score to be 24-10 in favor of the New York Jets. The Jets -4.5 is the Side of the Day!
