Titans vs. Steelers Betting Preview

The 2009 NFL regular season kicks off on Thursday with a matchup between the two best teams in the AFC according to last year's records.  This is our Titans vs. Steelers betting preview courtesy of SBG Global.

The Titans had the best record in the league at 13-3 but lost in the playoffs to Baltimore while the Steelers defeated the Ravens in the AFC Championship and then the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl.  This is a rematch of a game late last season that the Titans won 31-14.  It was the only loss in the final ten games for Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh is a 6-point favorite with a total of 35 at SBG Global.

The Titans have basically the same team as they did a year ago, minus defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth who went to Washington.  Tennessee will want to prove right away that their defense is just as good without the big defensive tackle. "It's important for us to get off to a good start," said defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, "There's no better way than to play against the team that had the best finish last season."

Pittsburgh returns almost all of their starters as they look to defend their NFL betting Super Bowl title.  The team looks focused and is not at all resting on their laurels. "Just because we won the Super Bowl last year don't mean nothing," defensive tackle Casey Hampton said. "To be at the top then doesn't mean anything because it's a whole new season."

Tennessee has won four of their last five against the Steelers.  Pittsburgh has won six straight season-openers by an average of 18 points per game. Here are the NFL betting stats for Thursday's game. The Titans are 8-0 ATS in their last 8 games in September. The Titans are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games as an underdog. The Titans are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games.

The Underdog is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between the two teams.

The Steelers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite. The Steelers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in September.

The Under is 8-2 in the Titans last 10 road games. The Under is 6-2 in the Titans last 8 games in September. The Over is 13-4 in the Steelers last 17 vs. the AFC. The Over is 36-15-2 in the Steelers last 53 games as a home favorite.  The Over is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Pittsburgh between the two teams.
