St. Louis Rams, Arizona Cardinals Odds 2011

The St. Louis Rams and – more likely the Arizona Cardinals – could prove a force this season in what is usually a weak NFC West with odds for Arizona having amazing value

The St. Louis Rams and Arizona Cardinals odds to win the 2011 NFC West were listed at 2/1 each at BetDSI.com.  This is anybody’s division to win more than any other season in what has been the weakest group in the NFL over the past several years.

Case in point, the Rams are technically favorites to win the NFC West with +175 odds

None of the four teams in this division are listed with odds of winning OVER 8 games.  St. Louis had an OVER 7.5 -130 line.  San Francisco was also given the OVER/UNDER of 7.5 with a line for both set at -115.

It does look like the Rams have what it takes on offense to go over .500 this season, and in the NFC West, that might be enough to make the Playoffs (even a 9 win regular season).   Sam Bradford should help take his team to the next level, especially with a well-rounded supporting cast.  On defense, Chris Long promises to be a threat.

One important thing to note about the Rams:  They spent wisely during the offseason and brought on some great talent while maintaining all the pieces from last year.  Quintin Mikell is considered one of the best safeties in the league while Harvey Dahl was another excellent off season pickup for the offensive line.

The Rams will need to be a much improved squad over last year’s in order to overcome the first portion of their schedule, which includes hosting the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, traveling to New York to face the Giants, then heading back home to take on Baltimore.

It really doesn’t get much better after a game against the Redskins, who they should be able to win.

The Rams travel to Green Bay and Dallas after a bye week then face New Orleans at home.  Most of the division face-offs occur the second half of the season where, in theory, the Rams should be able to go 4-2.

With the Bengals appearing towards the end of the regular season schedule and a game in Cleveland, we believe 7 wins will be easy to come by.  Throw in one upset and the 8 wins can be achieved.

If the Rams are as decent a team as we at Gambling911.com believe they are going to be, they can definitely win one, two, maybe three of those games that look improbable early on.

There is also the possibility that a Week 16 game in Pittsburgh might not have much meaning to the Steelers, though we suspect this division will come down to the wire between Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

As for the Arizona Cardinals, this might prove to be one of the best squads they’ve had in recent seasons, including that which led to their Super Bowl showing.

During the offseason, the Cards acquired quarterback Kevin Kolb.  With a strong arm and pinpoint accuracy, Kolb and Larry Fitzgerald (90 catches and 1,137 yards last season) could prove a dangerous tandem in the league.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie may be gone on defense but Arizona has filled the void left with the likes of Patrick Peterson and Stewart Bradley.  More importantly perhaps, Ray Horton becomes the Cardinals new Defensive Coordinator.  He helped lead the Steelers defense to finish second overall last season.

On paper, this looks like a team that can win against big opponents, but the good news for Arizona is that they’ll be facing the likes of Carolina, Cincinnati, Minnesota and Washington, along with a questionable Cleveland team.  They should be able to win four games within their division alone.

It is interesting to point out that the Cardinals could potentially start the season 5-0 with a home game against the New York Giants winnable as well while the other four teams before the bye week include Washington, Carolina, Seattle and Minnesota.

Games that follow including hosting Pittsburgh during Week 7 and heading to Baltimore right after that.  Both these games promise to bring Arizona back down to Earth.  They should be able to win against the Rams in an important game before heading off to Philadelphia.

Looking at the remainder of this schedule, G911.co sees an 11-win season very much in reach, therefore the OVER 7.5 regular season wins allotted to Arizona can be nothing more than an excellent value.  In fact, there would have to be a meltdown of epic proportion for this one to go any other way.
