PPH Football Betting -- Rams Help Ferguson Kids; Irish Deal with Bad Kids

In response to the desperate situation in Ferguson, MO in the wake of the shooting death of Michael Brown, the St. Louis Rams (priced at +300 to make the NFC playoffs at WagerHome.com) went ahead and donated 75 free tickets to football players at each of three different high schools in the city for the game they had this past Saturday against the Green Bay Packers. The schools in the area have experienced closing because of all the chaos. And the opening games of the high school football season had to be put off because of that.

Once again, there is a lot of discussion about academic standards at a university that has pledged it would not compromise them. Whether that has happened over the years with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+5000 in the football futures to win the NCAA title) is not known completely, but they are having their share of problems now. Everett Golson (+2000 at WagerHome.com to win the Heisman Trophy) had to sit out all of last season for cheating on a test, and he has been admitted back this year, just in time to perhaps wave goodbye to teammates like receiver DaVaris Daniels, cornerback KeiVarae Russell, defensive end Ishaq Williams and linebacker Kendall Moore, who are now the subjects of an investigation by the school for "academic fraud." None of the players will be permitted to participate in team activities until the investigation is complete. If they are ruled out, Daniels may be the biggest loss, as he caught 49 passes for 745 yards last season.

David Wilson, the former first-round draft pick of the New York Giants (+4000 to win the Super Bowl at WagerHome.com) who was recently told by doctors that he would never play again because of a neck injury, says he now would like to shift gears and compete in something that doesn't quite promote contact - the triple-jump - and at the Olympics no less. He will go back to Virginia Tech and get his degree, while training for the next Olympiad.

Wilson finished sixth in the event at the 2011 NCAA Championships, says he will go back to Virginia Tech and get his degree, while training for the next Olympiad.

And speaking of the New York Giants, one of the team's former Super Bowl heroes, who will be calling a Thursday night game involving the team next month for CBS, says he is currently considering not mentioning the name "Redskins" at all when referring to the opponent. Even so, he says that he is not taking sides when it comes to the debate that is ongoing over the team's nickname. CBS (and Fox, for that matter) has decided to let its announcers make their own decision as to how to label Daniel Snyder's team (which is +2500 to win the NFC title in the NFL futures odds  at WagerHome)

As the New York Yankees try to make their bid for a playoff spot down the stretch, they are hopeful that they will be joined by pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, who was contending with Jose Abreu for the American League rookie of the year when he went down with a torn ulnar collateral ligament. Instead of surgery, he went through specialized treatments and came back to throw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Saturday. In this coming week he will be cleared to throw some breaking balls, and perhaps he can contribute when the Yankees really need him, if they are not too far out of the race by that time. Going into Monday's games, New York is seven games behind the Baltimore Orioles, who are one of the favorites to make it to the World Series in the MLB odds,. who have the widest lead of any first-place team, and they are 3.5 games out of the second wild card spot.

Rafael Nadal, who has been dealing with a wrist injury, has pulled out of the U.S. Open tennis tournament, which is a big setback for the 28-year-old who is the defending champion. Nadal, who has won fourteen grand slams, lost to Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon last month. The men's favorite, as it is listed at WagerHome.com, is Novak Djokovic, at +110.
