This Thursday night game should be a good one as both teams are listed with 100/1 odds of winning the 2014 BCS Championship so we know it’s going to be a competitive game.

Unlike a lot of the Week 1 games, Ole Miss vs. Vanderbilt has plenty of recent head-to-head history with Vanderbilt winning the last 3 games in the series and 4 of the last 5.

Most of the experts have the Commodores winning this first game of the season.

Steven Lassan of AthlonSports.com writes of Vanderbilt's chances this season:

Coach James Franklin has raised the bar at Vanderbilt. The Commodores have made back-to-back bowl games for the first time in school history, recruiting is on the upswing, and the facilities are getting an upgrade. Needless to say, momentum is on the side of Vanderbilt and Franklin. Even though the Commodores will have a new quarterback and running back Zac Stacy is gone to the NFL, this team will have a chance to win nine games. New quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels could be an upgrade in terms of talent over Jordan Rodgers, and receiver Jordan Matthews is one of the nation’s best. The offensive line has made significant progress over the last few years, and the secondary ranks near the top of the SEC. Catching Texas A&M and Ole Miss in crossover play won’t be easy, but Vanderbilt should go 4-0 in non-conference play and will be favored to beat Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee. The opener against Ole Miss is a huge barometer test for both teams and should give us a good idea of how the Commodores stack up for 2013.

The Rebels last season were one of the SEC’s biggest surprises following just two wins the year prior.  They recorded a 7-6 overall record, which led to one of the nation’s top recruiting classes.  15 starters return this season.

The Commodores are an impressive 12-3 Against The Spread in their last 15 home games.
