New England Patriots

A lot of people will be betting on the New England Patriots beating the Baltimore Ravens at home.  Around 75 percent of those betting this game were backing New England at press time.  The Patriots have played very well on their own turf this season.  But New England is no longer invincible.

As the -3 ½ favorite at Sports Interaction.com, the Patriots have played well against Baltimore this past decade, going 4-0 and only failing to cover the current spread once with a three point win against Baltimore in 2007 on the road.

The Patriots do have their issues coming into this game and they may be tough to overcome, though the odds on this game were not especially affected, moving only a half point.

New England has been inconsistent and they will be without Wes Welker.

Judy Batista of the New York Times:

"The Patriots seem to be entering a tipping-point postseason. They are younger and less dominating, especially on the road, than in the past. They will not be favored if they advance to play the San Diego Chargers or the Colts. But are the Patriots getting their growing pains out of the way as they reload on the fly? Or are they in danger of experiencing the same fate as previous N.F.L. dynasties: a slow decline into mediocrity?"

Still, they will be playing a Baltimore team that just barely got into the post season with a 9-7 record.

The Ravens come into this game 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games as a road underdog of 3.5-10.0.

The Patriots, on the other hand, are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite of 3.5-10.0.  They are 21-7-1 ATS in their last 29 games following a S.U. loss.

New England was a big double digit long shot to win the 2010 Super Bowl at Sports Interaction prior to Sunday game.  Those odds got very long after the Welker injury so it is surprising that the line on the New England vs. Baltimore game really has not moved more than a half point.
