The #19 ranked Miami Hurricanes will try and get their season and credibility back on track as they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers for ESPN Thursday Night Football.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:50 PM and SBGGlobal.comopened with Miami as a 3-point favorite.

Miami is coming off a disappointing 36-24 loss at #2 Ohio State on September 11 as they failed to cover as 8-point dogs while the game went over the total.  The Hurricanes stand at 1-1 both straight up and against the spread with both games going over the total.  Miami was hoping to make a statement at Ohio State that they were back as an elite program but instead self destructed with penalties and turnovers.  Highly touted junior quarterback Jacory Harris threw 4 interceptions and was erratic throughout the game.  This is the middle college football game of a brutal 3-game road stretch for Miami that will end next week at Clemson.  Harris has completed 63% of his passes for 442 yards with 4 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.  Senior Leonard Hankinson leads the receiving corps with 13 catches good for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Hankinson was 2nd team All ACC last year.  Miami is still considered to be a top shelf choice to win the ACC this year.

After opening with a 27-24 loss at Utah as 3-point road dogs the Pitt Panthers scored an easy 38-16 home win over New Hampshire on September 11.  Despite having 11 new starters in the lineup the Panthers are one of the favorites to contend for the Big East Conference title.  Sophomore quarterback Tino Sunseri is off to a solid start as the new signal caller with a 65% completion rate, 459 yards, 3 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions.  Jonathan Baldwin has been Sunseri’s favorite target with 10 catches good for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Baldwin is a junior that made first team All Big East last year.

These two teams have not met since 2003 when Miami scored a 28-14 payout as 3-point road favorites.  The Canes have covered 4 out of their last 6 games against the Panthers.   Miami has covered just 5 out of their last 15 games as a road favorite and is just 7-14 against the spread when coming off a straight up loss.  Pitt has gone 10-6 against the football bettingspread as a home dog with 2 consecutive covers.
