Monday, 7:05 pm Eastern – ESPN

The regular NFL season opener of Monday Night Football on ESPN has the Baltimore Ravens visiting the New York Jets.  It is a matchup of potential Super Bowl teams and a matchup of superb defenses.  The Jets led the league in defense last season while Baltimore was not far behind in third place.

The Jets are 1.5 point favorites at SBG Global with the total at 36.

The Jets got great news last week when cornerback Darrelle Revis ended his holdout and signed a long-term deal.  The question for New York will be how ready Revis is to play after missing all of training camp and all of the football betting preseason. He should be tested right away by Baltimore newcomer Anquan Boldin. He was signed by the Ravens in the off-season to give them a deep threat for quarterback Joe Flacco.  Revis will get a big test on Monday night.

Much of the focus will be on the battle between Revis and Boldin but the game may be decided on the other side with New York quarterback Mark Sanchez going against the Baltimore defense.  If the Jets are going to be Super Bowl contenders then Sanchez must play well. The Ravens do not have safety Ed Reed who will miss at least the first six weeks of the season due to injury so keep an eye on Tom Zbikowski. He will be leading a banged up secondary for Baltimore.  If Sanchez can take advantage of the Baltimore secondary problems then the Jets should win.

Baltimore has won two of their last three season openers. The Ravens have not been a good team on Monday Night Football though as they are just 2-8 in their last 10 appearances. The last time the Ravens and Jets played was in 2007 and Baltimore won 20-13.

Here are the football betting statsfor Monday’s game. The Ravens are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games in September. The Ravens are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Ravens are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings against New York. The Jets are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Monday games.

The Under is 5-1-1 in the Ravens last 7 road games. The Over is 8-3 in the Ravens last 11 Monday games. The Over is 4-1 in Jets last 5 vs. the AFC.
