The New Orleans Saints had odds of 13/1 and were seeing around 3.5 percent of the future betting action for the Super Bowl.  It remains to be seen as to whether this franchise can fully recover from a highly publicized “bounty hunt” scandal resulting in several suspensions.  Head coach Sean Payton was among those suspended and will not be coaching for the 2012-2013 season.

Atlanta had odds of 19/1 to win the Super Bowl.  There’s not a whole lot to indicate this team has taken measures to get them over that all important hump.

Andy Benoit of the New York Times writes:

With the bounty turmoil in New Orleans and with the Panthers and Bucs still young, the Falcons’ window in the N.F.C. South is open wider than ever. But the focus with this team is not on winning the division. It’s on finally winning in the postseason. That will come down to how well Matt Ryan and the offense adapt to Dirk Koetter’s new system. The prospects look good.

The Falcons do look undervalued to win the 2012 NFC South at +125 odds, compared to -120 on New Orleans.  The payout would be $12.50 for every $10 bet should the Falcons win the division.  That’s certainly a play worth looking at

Whether the Panthers can make any further headway this season remains to be seen.  The value for winning the Super Bowl is good though at 45/1 despite likely defensive woes that have not fully been addressed during the offseason.

Tampa Bay had odds of 90/1 to win the 2013 Super Bowl.
