For this year's FIFA World Cup, Oregon residents can place bets using bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.  They can simply set up a cryptocurrency wallet that can be linked to one's banking account. Internationally-licensed online sportsbooks also offer the option of betting with one's credit card, gift card, and even cash. In May 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that individual states can offer legalized sports betting but must first develop regulatory instruments before doing so.

WILL OREGON WELCOME SPORTS BETTING?

Oregon was among a handful of states that had already been “grandfathered” in under the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA).  That's the law struck down by the Supreme Court last month.  Its state lottery offered a parlay form of sports wagering many years ago.

The Lottery does have the broad authority to offer a more expansive sports betting platform.

“The Oregon State Lottery and its board broad authority to introduce and remove games as it sees fit,” Farshad Allahdadi, chief gaming operations officer for the Oregon Lottery, said in an interview with Legal Sports Betting prior to the Supreme Court decision. “Sports betting on a local level — if it is authorized federally — does not need any additional state legislative action.

“While we’re waiting, on principle Oregon State Lottery is interested in getting back into the sports wagering market.”

Needless-to-say, Oregon gamblers will need to rely on international websites to place all their World Cup bets

HOW TO USE BITCOIN AND OTHER CRYPTOCURRENCIES FOR BETTING THE FIFA WORLD CUP

The online betting site will simply have you send them the special address/token obtained from the Bitcoin wallet or exchange.

You would select either SEND (to deposit funds) or RECEIVE (to withdraw funds).

Some exchanges allow customers to link directly with their bank accounts or PayPal.  The Bitcoin can be converted into the currency of your choice then transferred into your account in as little as 24 hours.

You will want to verify all your information (including personal identification) with the exchange prior to sending and receiving funds.  Typically they will suggest setting up an authenticator on your mobile device for added security.
