2010 Oscars Picks: Like Taking Candy From a Baby

If not for the fact that the prices for a number of categories were so steep, we'd all be rich betting on this year's Oscars.  This is Carrie Stroup with my 2010 Oscars picks and some things are simply just too good to be true.

Case in point:  I feel pretty good picking Cristoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds) to win for Best Supporting Actor.  In fact I can tell you it's going to happen, guaranteed!  The problem is you would have to bet $250 to win $10 at Sportsbook.com.  If you were to bet $500 you would win a whopping $20.  The bets are returned assuming he wins and you make a $20 profit.  But if you have $500 laying around to bet, what's the point of trying to win $20?

There are a few categories to focus on where value can be had.

First, here are my 2010 Oscars picks for some of the higher priced categories:

Best Supporting Actress: Mo Nique (Precious) -2000 odds

Best Actor:  Jeff Bridges was at -1000, which doesn't even seem as big a "lock" compared to the supporting actor/actress categories.

Next we have some tighter races.

My pick for Best Film is The Hurt Locker, which was at -200.  Avatar pays even odds still.  There is only a nominal risk of $20 to win $10 (bet refunded if it's a winner) on The Hurt Locker.

Best Actress I am going with the slight long shot here and Meryl Streep.  She pays $20 for every $10 bet.

Best Director I say James Cameron because of the nice payout odds that pay $30 for every $10 bet.
