I've used credit cards to pay for absolutely everything imaginable in the last ten years in CR (as citizen), US/Canada (very frequent visitor), Europe and Asia, never ever had a problem. Here in CR the rule is "never in bars, never in gas stations", in those two places the card is taken out of sight by the server/pump guy and then all sorts of 'things' can happen to it but other than that I've used my cards in almost any imaginable site /situation. In G911 situation, it probably was a bar/restaurant OR a hotel employee (if booked using a manual authorization form where an employee gets access to the card details directly)
