A new Vegas darling?

Kaelen Jones of Sports Illustrated says it is among the biggest point spread upsets in College Football history.

The team that accomplished this feat is not among the more recognized names in the sport.

Elon Phoenix football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the Elon University located in the U.S. state of North Carolina.

They stunned another lesser known College Football team, the James Madison Dukes.

The team profiles - or lack thereof - does little to change the remarkable nature of this feat.

Jones explains how it all went down:

Elon upset FCS No. 2-ranked James Madison 27-24 on Saturday on Davis Cheek's 15-yard touchdown pass to Avery Jones with 1:17 remaining. It ended the Dukes' record 20-game Colonial Athletic Association winning streak, marking their first conference loss since October 31, 2015.

Perhaps most stunning: Elon closed as 37.5-point underdogs, according to VegasInsider.com. That made Elon's victory the biggest Vegas upset of the college football season thus far, besting Old Dominion's stunner over Virginia Tech as a 28.5-point underdog.

So where does Elon's stunning upset stand in the annals of sports betting history?

The Phoenix's win was the third-biggest Vegas points spread upset ever behind Howard defeating UNLV 43-40 as a 45.5-point underdog last season. And in 2007, Stanford beat USC 24-23 after entering the game as a 40.5-point underdog.
