Horse betting has just been legalized in North Korea, according to reports that surfaced via Reuters over the weekend.

Per North Korea’s KCNA news agency, races called the "Autumn Race-Goers Games" were held Sunday at the Mirim Riding Club, a Pyongyang-based facility among the “vanity” projects constructed in recent years by leader Kim Jong Un. Those 12 and older were eligible to wager on jockeys in a raffle-type system.

Previously, betting the races would have resulted in a sentence of three years of hard labor.

Photos released by Reuters appear to show Thoroughbreds being raced.
