Portland Trail Blazers Looking to Solve Memphis Defense

The Blazers really struggled in the regular season against the Grizzlies defense as they were held to 93.8 points per game, nine points below their season average. Portland head coach Terry Stotts said that his team is prepared to do different things than in the regular season. "There will be adjustments. I don't know about wrinkles," Stotts said. "You don't want to outsmart yourself going into a series, but you're prepared to do different things." The Blazers have two very good scorers in LaMarcus Aldrdige and Damian Lilliard. Both players just need to play better than they did in the regular season series. "We'll stick to what we've done,'' Lillard said. "Coach is pretty big on trusting what we do. We just have to do it better.''

Batum vs. Green

An under the radar matchup that may decide this series is Portland’s Nicolas Batum against Memphis’ Jeff Green. It was a mismatch during the regular season as Batum struggled while Green was excellent in the three meetings. Batum expects to do much better in this playoff series than in the regular season. "I want to show this season was not who I am," Batum said, "Just want to put that behind me. Those 82 (regular season) games are behind me." Batum could have success against Green who is the only regular starter for the Grizzlies who had a negative plus-minus rating this season. But Green did average 17.8 points per game against the Blazers this season.

Game Notes

It was all Memphis in this series before the first game as they had taken nine of the last ten and covered eight of the last ten. The Grizzlies won all three of the regular season meetings with two of the three going under. The Grizzlies had won six of the past ten at home but they were just 4-5-1 against the spread. Six of the last ten had gone under.
