Pittsburgh Pirates Prove Profitable for Sports Bettors

Sports bettors are making a killing on the Pittsburgh Pirates, or so it seems they should be.

The Sports Memo website notes that, despite a crazy number of strikeouts, savvy gamblers are profiting big time off the Pirates, a team that typically stays under the radar of oddsmakers.

From SportsMemo.com:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have struck out 10 times or more in 14 games this season. Those 14 games add up to 173 strikeouts. To put that in perspective, Kansas City (16-24) leads the league in fewest strikeouts with 221 in 40 games. Yet despite their immense shortcomings at the plate, the Pirates are 19-22 and only three games out of first place in the National League Central. They are also the most profitable (+2.0 units) team in the division. Note that Baltimore has the highest strikeout total in baseball (359) and owns the best record (27-15) in the American League.

Pittsburgh sports a record of 19-22 in the National League Central, making them all the more inconspicuous to oddsmakers.  They are very much in the thick of things, however, being just 3 games down from the division leading St. Louis Cardinals.
