YouTube Debate: Ron Paul vs. John McCain: Rudy Giuliani vs. Mitt RomneyTwo of the biggest bouts of the YouTube Debate: Ron Paul vs. John McCain and Rudy Giuliani vs. Mitt Romney.
The first ever YouTube/CNN Republican Debate got off to a heated start with Mayor Rudy Giuliani attacking Mitt Romney over "hiring illegal aliens" to do work on his own property.
Romney asked if it was fair that he should have asked an outside firm to provide paperwork documenting that their workers are legal "just because they don't have the same accent as you," Romney said, referring to the Mayor.
Giuliani received some booing from the crowd.
Fred Thompson jumped on the bandwagon and seemed to put his foot in his mouth by suggesting "we have all hired people we didn't intend to hire".
Giuliani defended a YouTube viewer's allegation that the Mayor ran a "sanctuary city".
Illegal immigration was a hot topic from the get go at this debate. The debate itself took place in a "hot" state for immigration - Florida.
The other big bang came when an animated Uncle Sam asked Senator John McCain if he's for the fair tax.
McCain responded that he was not, then he immediately went after Paul for wanting to bring troops home. "I want to tell you that kind of isolationism is what caused World War II...we allowed Hitler to come to power."
Paul says the real question is, "Why does my campaign get the most money from active duty military officers? I'm not an isolationism."
He claims McCain doesn't understand his terms.
McCain later mixed it up with Mitt Romney about waterboarding torture. Romney was pretty much accused of condoning torture by McCain, though Romney insisted he did not want to discuss methods of interregation for the security of the nation.
How this helps the Republican candidates and whether the odds change remains to be seen.
