Five Millionaires Will Come Out of This Year's World Series of PokerThe top five finishers in this year's World Series of Poker are guaranteed to walk away with over a million dollars. That is down from last year where the top 12 players walked off with over a million. This is a result of the entry pool being much larger in 2006.
The number of entrants for the 2007 World Series of Poker $10,000 buy-in main event decreased this year, dropping from 8,773 to 6,358.
The prize pool is a little less than $60 million. Anyone who placed 621 or higher (just under 10 percent of the field) got paid with the minimum prize going to number 621: $20,320.
This year's champion will take down a little less than $8.25 million. Not too shabby.
Heading into Sunday's play there were 36 players remaining. These 36 individuals will play at four tables beginning noon Pacific Time (3 pm EST) and when all is said and done, there will be 9 left standing. Play is likely to extend into the early Monday morning hours, but these 9 will have about 24 hours to ponder their fate as Monday will technically be a day off.
Tuesday will feature the final 9 playing for a piece of World Series of Poker history.
