Wimbledon:
Oddsmakers Speak
Wimbledon 2007 begins
on Monday with nearly all the big name tennis stars
coming out to shine.
This is Carrie Stroup
reporting for Sports911.com with all your latest
Wimbledon betting odds coverage.
The oddsmakers are
less than impressed with the Men's Wimbledon
appearances this year, with
Roger Federer made the big
favorite - a payout of $1 for every $3
bet (plus you would receive your initial $3 back).
In other words you will only realize a profit on
every $3 bet. Everyone else pays handsomely
with only a minimum risk.

Carrie Stroup will be
reporting on Wimbledon all week long
I had an opportunity
to sit down with the oddsmakers at
Sportsbook.com this
weekend and they have no other choice but to list
Federer as a big favorite.
He's looking to
emulate Bjorn Borg by winning a fifth consecutive
Wimbledon title.
But the odds of
Federer winning a 5th Wimbledon are rather steep
when you think in terms of the statistical
probability. This is why
Sportsbook.com recommends
betting on one of the runner ups in the odds
department.
"Rafael Nadal pays 5
to 1 odds," says Nikki Cox, Spokesperson for
Sportsbook.com. Andy Roddick pays 8 to 1 odds.
Novak Djokovic will pay $900 for every $100 bet
should he win. Anyone is capable of winning
the Men's Wimbledon title. It's not being
handed to Nadal on a silver platter."
Even better is a bet
on one of the women, three of whom are each favored
but with a minimum risk.
"Justine
Henin-Hardenne has odds of 7 to 4 at Sportsbook.com.
She's already beaten Serena Williams, who is listed
with odds of 5 to 2. Then there is Maria
Sharapova with odds of 9 to 2."
Serena Williams might
be the only player in the draw less predictable than
the weather at Wimbledon, writes John Branch of
the New York Times.
"She did not play last
year, part of a self-imposed respite from the game,
and has not won here since back-to-back
championships in 2002 and 2003. She arrives seeded
seventh, yet British bookmakers have installed her
as the favorite to win the women’s singles title."
