Will I Be Able to Bet College Football Games Online From Alabama?

While the US Supreme Court has now made sports betting legal in the United States, Alabama residents will not be able to bet the games in any of the state's casinos for the upcoming 2018 College Football season.  Do not dispair as a few dozen of internationally licensed sportsbooks will accept wagers on the upcoming NFL and College Football season.

WILL ALABAMA WELCOME SPORTS BETTING IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

Probably not any time soon.  Its legislative body is mostly unfriendly towards gambling. The three casinos that operate here are on Tribal land. None of those are allowed to provide table games like blackjack or roulette, so don't expect sports wagering any time soon.  The state doesn not even offer a lottery, or fantasy sports contests for that matter (one of nine that prohibit such competitions).

Those following the sports betting scene in the US point to neighboring Mississippi, which has already begun offering sportsbooks in their casinos.  Both states share equal conservative values.  But Mississippi allowed casino gambling decades ago, and has benefitted financially from the activity to the tune of $2 billion a year while filling up the state coffers with around $250 million in revenues.

Rep. Rich Wingo, R-Tuscaloosa - a former player and coach at the University of Alabama, who played seven years in the NFL - said sports gambling will "pervert" the state's favorite pastime: College football.

"Now all of a sudden, people will be watching Alabama and Auburn because they have money on the line and then the field goal kicker misses the field goal," said Wingo. "It puts it in a different perspective with money on the line rather than a sport and an enjoyable event versus something you could lose on financially."

For obvious reasons, this is great news for the local bookmaker.  He or she will need to utilize the very best in sportsbook software as a means of enticing deprived College Football gamblers in the state.
