Cinderella Team Watch: Hoyas

  • Georgetown is a team that appears to have caught on fire late in the regular season after an initial slow start.  The eighth-seeded Hoyas made an improbable run through the Big East tournament to take the title. They will take on Colorado as a +5.5 underdog in the first round. Georgetown can shoot threes and rebound well.
  • Georgetown became the highest seed to win a Big East tournament since UConn did it in 2011 and that Huskies team went on to win it all.
  • But they ended the regular season 7-9 and didn't win more than two teams in a row all season!!!  There is a reason.
  • At the end of last season, Georgetown’s leading scorer Mac McClung announced he was transferring to Texas Tech and four players had already left the program in the middle of that season.
  • Ultimate head coach Patrick Ewing (one of the top feel good stories heading into this year's tournament) was able to patch a new roster together that focused on various talents (heroes) through each game of tournament play.
  • While the team is still not perfect (they rank No. 85 in offense and No. 41 in defense in the country) they now have the talent and already proved their worth.
  • The Hoyas may not win the title, but they certainly have a shot at beating Colorado, or at least covering the spread in their first round game against Colorado Saturday at 12:15 pm ET.
  • The Hoyas pay out $10,000 for every $100 bet to win the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
