West Virginia Wins Over Oklahoma: A Big Win for Online Bookies

Online bookies reeling from a devastating New Year's Day Bowl slate where the public gamblers won all but a single of the most heavily bet on Games, came out on top with West Virginia Hokies upset of the Oklahoma Sooners in Wednesday's highly anticipated Fiesta Bowl.

The second most heavily bet on Bowl game witnessed nearly 90% of the public betting action going Oklahoma's way at one time.  The line on this game ranged from West Virginia as a +7 1/2 underdog all the way to a +9 underdog.

ESPN.com was quick to make this suggestion as a battered Sooners team entered the 4th quarter of play:

"The next time Oklahoma is invited to the Fiesta, the Sooners may want to consider another BCS option. Stunned last season by Boise State, OU is being dominated this year in the desert."

At the top of the 4th quarter, West Virginia was leading Oklahoma 34-15.

With the outright win by West Virginia, those who bet the Hokies money line walked off with nearly $300 for every $100 wagered.

Online bookmakers essentially won back much of what was lost on Tuesday.  An Oklahoma win would have been heartbreaking to the books.  Many offered a strong opinion on this game and failed to move the line more than a half point despite the lopsided action on the Sooners.
