WSOP Update: Huck Seed Makes Impression During Day 3Of the top 10 chip leaders at the 2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP), only one had over a million dollars in winnings over his poker career at the start of the evening Thursday (Day 3). That was Huck Seed - a name that's tough to forget.
Card Player Magazine had Huck Seed dropping down a bit with only 630 still playing out of the initial 6358 who entered. Huck Seed was sitting with a 685,000 chip count. Relative unknown Robert Nehorayan led with a million chips.
Gambling911.com will be presenting more extensive updates and player profiles as we head into the weekend and inch ever so closer to the finale of this year's WSOP.
So who is Huck Seed?
His biggest win of $125,000 over the past year came during the 2006 National Heads-Up Poker Championship. But what is even more impressive is that Huck Seed has won nearly $85,000 placing in six other tournaments since that time.
His lifetime poker tournament winnings have amounted to $3.4 mil, most of which has been accumulated by placing in a few dozen tournaments, including 6th in the 30th World Series of Poker (WSOP) 1999. That was enough to yield just over $167,000. Today's 6th place winner will likely take home over a million.
But Seed has proven successful at a number of WSOP events. In fact, he won the 1996 World Series of Poker and a cool $1 mil to go with it. He has four WSOP bracelets.
If you think Huck Seed is an unusual name, it's actually short for Huckleberry Seed and he has siblings named Poppy and Cotton. Go figure!
Seed grew up in Corvallis, Montana, where he attended Corvallis High School. He was a member of the 1987 Montana All-State basketball team. He came from a family of outstanding student-athletes: his younger brother Leif Seed was second in the 1600 meter run in the Montana state track meet and eventually ran 800 meters in an outstanding 1:50.86 at MIT , finishing third at the 1999 NCAA DIII championships.
Huck Seed was an electrical engineering student at Caltech and a member of Fleming House. He took a leave of absence in 1989, started playing poker, and never returned to college. Seed was a star player on Caltech's basketball team and is featured in the 2006 documentary Quantum Hoops.
