Phil Hellmuth Falters at WPT
Phil Hellmuth, the chip leader at this year's World Poker Tour Classic (WPT) heading into Wednesday managed to fall to the number 18 position by late in the evening. His lead was now filled by Paul Lee.
Earlier in the day it was all pro Hellmuth making the right moves.
"You bluffed $200,000 against the best player in the world on the top of his game, you won’t make it past the end of the day." Hellmuth finally showed As-6s and right before he mucked he told Buchanan, "I see right through your soul."
Speaking of AbsolutePoker.com, the online poker room, which this week joins the Gambling911.com family of fine online poker rooms, has announced that its customers can qualify for the 6th annual 2007 Aruba Poker Classic.
"We're excited to give Absolute Poker players the chance to attend one of the hottest poker tournaments of the year," stated David Clainer, senior vice president for Absolute Poker. "Most of all, we're thrilled to be one of only two sites granted the right to send qualifiers to the event."
The popular weeklong tournament - put on for the 6th year in a row by online poker site UltimateBet - is happening in Aruba from September 23rd to September 30th.
Jessica Greene, AbsolutePoker.com's resident tigress and obvious Metal fanatic, has also confirmed that one of her favorite rock bands will be represented in Aruba.
"80's metal fans will be thrilled to know that Anthrax will be taking part in the tournament," she told Gambling911.com. "Scott Ian from Anthrax has already secured a seat in this year's event after winning VH1's Rock Stars of Poker."
AbsolutePoker.com has not yet confirmed with Gambling911.com's Jenny Woo will be on hand to cover this event (hint, hint).
Absolute Poker players can enter daily online poker satellites for as little as $1 to claim their seat in the bi-weekly Sunday Super Satellite. For every 85 players in the Aruba Super Satellite, one $8,500 Aruba Poker Classic prize package will be awarded. What's more, players can buy directly into the Sunday event for $100+9, bypassing the daily qualifiers.
The $8,500 Aruba Poker Classic prize package includes the $5,500 main event seat and $3,000 for travel and accommodations.
In 2006, Devon Miller captured the title, taking home $774,960 in cash. This year, with an estimated 750 players in the tournament, the first place prize is expected to be even bigger.
The estimated prize pool of the land-based poker tournament is $2.5 million. Past Aruba Poker Classic participants have included Phil Hellmuth, Jennifer Tilly, Phil "The Unabomber" Laak, and Annie Duke.
