Who is Hermes
Franca?
Franca is a
Brazilian mixed martial artist currently fighting at
Lightweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Franca made his UFC
debut at UFC 42, defeating Richard Crunkilton by
unanimous decision. He went on to win his next UFC
fight against Caol Uno (who narrowly missed the
lightweight championship after drawing with B.J.
Penn) at UFC 44 before losing a majority decision to
Josh Thomson at UFC 46.
His record stood at
18 wins and 5 losses coming into Saturday night's
fight.
Who is Sean Sherk?
Aptly named "The
Muscle Shark", Sherk's records stands at 33-2-1. He
has fought in both the UFC and PRIDE, drawing
comparisons in style and body-type to American
wrestler and former UFC Welterweight Champion Matt
Hughes, whom Sherk had once fought and lost a close
decision to after a five-round championship bout.
Sherk became the UFC Lightweight Champion on October
14, 2006 at UFC 64. He is only the second UFC
Lightweight Champion to date, and is the only
champion since the division's reinstatement in 2006.
