Syesha
Mercado Blows Them
Away on American
Idol It
was Andrew Lloyd
Webber week on
American Idol and
Syesha Mercado
opened the show with
a bang. It was
her best performance
by far and one of
the best all around
performances of the
season. She
was definitely in
her element this
week.
The Miami native
has mostly hovered
among the bottom
three each week,
taking on big
numbers from
familiar artists who
sang them much
better (i.e.
Whitney, Mariah,
Fantasia etc..).
This week, Syesha
performed a Broadway
melody that few Idol
fans were likely to
be familiar with and
the judges loved it.
Syesha took on
"One Rock 'n' Roll
Too Many" from
Starlight Express.
Starlight Express
is a rock musical by
Andrew Lloyd Webber
(music) and Richard
Stilgoe (lyrics),
with later revisions
by Don Black
(lyrics) and David
Yazbek (music and
lyrics for the 2nd
US tour). The story
follows a child's
dream in which his
toy train set comes
to life; famously
the actors perform
wearing roller
skates.
David Cook was
fantastic at the end
but Syesha could
easily have had the
best performance of
the night.
