All the No. 1 seeds advanced to the Sweet 16, as did all the No. 2s and No. 3s, so there wasn’t a lot of madness in the opening rounds of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

The lowest seeded team to reach the third round was Oregon as a 12, but the Ducks certainly didn’t play like a team seeded so low in the Dance and they head to Louisville brimming with confidence after taking down Wisconsin by 18 points and UC Irvine by 19 in the second round.

There’s still a chance we can have an all ACC Final Four with Duke, North Carolina, Virginia and Florida State all advancing to the regional semifinals. And if you thought the league wasn’t the best in college basketball, throw in a fifth team to reach the Sweet 16 in Virginia Tech. The Hokies and Blue Devils get each other in the East Regional semis and VT has a win over Duke earlier in the year. The Dookies were without Zion Williamson in that game and the Hokies were minus Justin Robinson.

The Noles might have the toughest task of the ACC bunch with a matchup against No. 1 seed Gonzaga on Thursday. The Dookies have to be feeling pretty good after escaping their second-round tilt with UCF. The Knights had two chances at the game-winner in the final seconds only to have a putback rim out at the horn. Is that a sign that maybe this is Coach K’s year?

The opening lines for the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament hit the board and there are no huge surprises. That’s because things played out according to plan over the first weekend of the Tournament. All the top-seeded teams advanced with Oregon the only double-digit seed to escape the first weekend and move to the regional semifinals. But the Ducks certainly didn’t look like a No. 12 seed and could be a handful for Virginia.

The Cavs are laying 7.5-points on the opening spread and that number is likely to move before tipoff on Thursday. Don’t expect to see a lot of offense in that game with two stingy teams who flashed their defensive brilliance in the first two rounds. The total hit the board as the lowest of any of the regional semifinals at just 119.

Sharing the largest opening line is Duke, which is giving 7.5-points to ACC rival Virginia Tech. The Hokies upset the Blue Devils during the regular season, 77-72, at home back in February. Duke fans will concede that the team wasn’t at its best without Williamson. But the Hokies were also missing one of their top players in Robinson. They fueled their teams to a pair of wins last weekend setting up the rematch.

Gonzaga and Houston are carrying the torch for the mid-major conferences as both advanced to the Sweet 16. Regular season AAC champ Houston nearly had some company with UCF coming so close to the biggest upset of the Tournament on Sunday. Thousands of brackets would have been busted had the Knights hit a last-second shot. They had two tries with the last rimming out at the horn.

The Cougars are a 2-point dog on the opening line for Friday’s Midwest semifinal tilt with Kentucky. Gonzaga opened as a 6.5-point favorite in their matchup with a sneaky Florida State group. The Zags overcame the heartbreak of their loss to Saint Mary’s in the WCC tournament final by dispatching FDU and Baylor, setting up a rematch of last year’s regional semifinal in which the Noles eliminated Gonzaga.
