Super Bowl Betting Odds: Patriots Line Settles in at -12 With Super Bowl Sunday finally here, the 2008 Super Bowl betting odds (once all over the map) have now stabilized completely at 100 percent of all reporting online sportsbooks. Whether the line shifts any more prior to kickoff remains debatable as a good brunt of the betting action will flow in the 6 hours leading up to game time and much of that betting action will be on the New York Giants. Needless-to-say, a Giants win will be a bookmakers loss. At press time over 75 percent of the betting action was on the New York Giants at +12 and over 80 percent of those betting the Giants money line (a pay out of nearly $400 for every $100 bet at betED.com for a Giants outright win) promised the books fits if the Pats failed to cover (and worse, failed to win outright). It wasn't until the early morning hours that Bodog decided to move off of Patriots -11 1/2, a dangerous line should the Patriots manage to win by 12 or more points. While the probability of a game landing on the number "12" is quite low, it's not impossible by any stretch of the imagination. A combination of the Giants having 9 field goal points and the Patriots having 3 touchdowns would lead to a 12 point win. The reason this is so crucial is that a number of online sportsbooks have not moved off the number "12" all week and a score landing on this number would result in a "push" (neither the book nor the player wins/loses). In 2002, one disreputable but rather large online gambling site shut down the day after Super Bowl and ran off with approximately $13 million after that bookmaker issued a strong opinion on a Super Bowl line - against the status quo. That won't happen with Bodog since they don't take the type of wise guy action this other company (Aces Gold) had engaged in, but Gambling911.com's point is to stay clear of any enticing Super Bowl betting odds being offered by less established mismanaged online betting shops not endorsed by Gambling911.com (for a list of online sportsbooks endorsed by Gambling911.com go here) ----- Christopher Costigan, Gambling911.com Publisher CCostigan@CostiganMedia.com Originally published February 3, 2008 10:53 am EST
