Russia's telecom watchdog reportedly blocked around 1500 online gambling domain names over the weekend and it was not immediately clear if more will meet the same fate.

From CalvinAyre.com:

Roskomnadzor, which is tasked with protecting Russians from harmful online products (like gambling) and information (President Vladimir Putin’s reputed $200b net worth), has earned a reputation as the undisputed most-vigilant censor in terms of blocking access to internationally licensed gambling sites that compete with locally licensed online sports betting operators.

While 1500 might look like a scary number, this is nothing compared to the more than 14,500 blocked back in August. 76,000 have been blocked over the last 24 months.

Sites impacted according to CalvinAyre.com included 888, Bet365, Betfair, Betfred, Betsson, Bwin, Dafabet, 5Dimes, Interwetten, Ladbrokes, Lottoland, Pinnacle, Unibet, William Hill and Winamax. State-run operators like Denmark’s Danske Spil, Norway’s Norsk Tipping, Finland’s PAF and Singapore Pools were also blocked.
