Accused Rugby Rapists Named

A London paper has finally revealed the names of those accused in a weekend "Rugby rape" shocker in New Zealand.

Police are investigating allegations of a woman, an Auckland bar worker, claiming she was raped by four England Rugby players in the early hours of Sunday morning at the team hotel, the night after England was beaten by the All Blacks at Eden Park. They are yet to receive a formal complaint from the woman.

She was one of several women, including Sophie Lewis, who had been drinking with English players at Auckland nightclub Pony after the game, and later accompanied them back to the Hilton around 4am.

The London Sun named Danny Care, David Strettle, Topsy Ojo and Mike Brown as the four players believed to have been involved in the sex scandal in Auckland the night after the first Test against the All Blacks.

The four have followed legal advice not to speak with New Zealand police, though are declaring their innocence which is being backed by England management.

AAP quoted a source as saying, "The players involved feel under pressure and angry. They are single guys who said they did nothing wrong.

"Players who had nothing to do with it are furious too. The whole squad feels it will stay under a shadow until the air is cleared."

Care plays for Harlequins in the Guinness Premiership.  His position of choice is at scrum-half but he can also operate in the fly-half role.

David Strettle, (born July 23, 1983), is an English rugby union player who plays on the wing for Harlequins and England. Noted for his acceleration, Strettle's running has drawn comparisons to a young Jason Robinson. He was educated at Lymm High School.

Virgin PokerTopsy Ojo (born 28 July 1985) is an English rugby union player for the London Irish club, and is a member of the England national rugby union team squad.  He became a full member of the London Irish squad in April 2006, and now plays wing.

Mike Brown usually plays at Fullback for Harlequins.
