Ron Paul on Jay Leno: How Did He Do?

2008 US Presidential candidate Ron Paul appeared on Jay Leno Tuesday night.  This was the much ballyhooed segment that is widely considered Ron Paul's most high profile mainstream media appearance to date.

Ron Paul is making headlines over the past week, having raised a significant amount of cash over the 3rd quarter.  That money is being used towards a major advertising blitz in New Hampshire where he sat just under 8% in the polling prior to airing of these commercials.

Paul is an immensely popular candidate within the online community.  Much of the money raised thus far has come from his Internet support base.  Dr. Paul is also listed with 6 to 1 odds of becoming the next US President.

Jay Leno asked how he got into the sleazy occupation of Politics after pointing out he was in the Air Force and is currently a doctor who has delivered over 4000 babies.

Dr. Paul talked about getting rid of social security, saving millions of dollars allowing people to become more self-reliant.  And how about abolishing the IRS?

Paul would be for a flat tax but "I want to make it real flat, like zero."

"People would have money," Paul said when asked whether the country would go broke without taxes.  "Much smaller government."

His biggest issue that got Leno's attention was "Iraq" and Paul brought up the Constitution.

"If I were to make the wrong diagnosis, I wouldn't keep making it.  We need to admit we made a mistake.  Our troops are disenchanted.  I don't think we are safer at all.  We are more vulnerable today looking at our current policy.

"Nobody is going to touch us militarily.  Our greatest threat is to that of our civil liberties at home."

Meet up groups and the Internet group are helping to boost his candidacy.

"Yes.  There is a risk I could win," Ron Paul said.

He would consider a role of Vice President if any of the Republican candidates would be against intervention overseas, which Dr. Paul explained there are none at this time taking such a stand.

And, hey, he came up on stage with the Sex Pistols at the end of their performance.
