Ron Paul Money Bomb Closes in on $3 Mil Raised December 16

Carrie Stroup reporting for Gambling911.com from our Miami Beach office with your 2:00 pm EST Ron Paul money bomb update.

The one day fundraiser for 2008 US Presidential candidate Ron Paul appears to be closing in on $3 million with a half day still left.  At the current rate, online oddsmakers would be on target with an Over/Under line of between $5 million and $6 million.  The bookmakers finally settled on $6 million heading into Sunday.

Hovering around $11.5 million heading into Sunday, the campaign had raised $14.4 million just shortly before 2 pm EST.  Whether they take in more than $6 million remains to be seen but this fundraising effort is almost certain to shatter the last 24 hour fund raiser held several weeks back.  That one took in just over $4 million over a 24 hour period.

The presidential campaign of Republican Rep. Ron Paul says it has already topped its fourth-quarter goal of raising $12 million.

The campaign just sent out the word in an e-mail blast to reporters.

"The outpouring of support is astounding. Americans are rallying to Dr. Paul's message and showing that they want a government that respects their rights and protects their freedoms," Paul campaign manager Lew Moore says in that press release.

Ron Paul is currently averaging around 12-1 odds of becoming the next US President.  At Sportsbook.com, Paul was trailing behind Rudy Giuliani (3-1 odds), Mitt Romney (8-1 odds) and Mike Huckabee, who has received extensive action in recent weeks, mostly brought on by news reports of his narrowing lead in the polls (10-1 odds).
